Under Storage+ Pods+ Moving Truck Companies
A Pod is basically a big container that you can store your belongings in. Pods have been around since 1998 and Pods offers their service to over 20 million people in 20,000 cities in 46 states. What happens if you live in one of the four states that doesn’t offer Pods? Well, sorry… you will have to go Podless.
When I looked into Pods before one of my moves, I found them to be quite expensive. Maybe it’s just cheap Pods are hard to come by or I live in an area where Pods are not close by.
I do believe that Pods are a great idea and I would have used them if they weren’t so much more expensive than just renting a storage rental for a year. However, if you live in a big city, or near one, you really should check out the Pods dealer or store in your area to find out how much renting a Pod will cost.

Under Storage+ Moving Truck Companies+ Moving Trucks+ Moving Truck Rental Deals
One little tip that just came to mind has to do with storage. Our last move was crazy. We had storage units in 2 states over 2,000 miles apart from each other. One was heater and the other had a/c as they were in two totally different climates.
Everything was stored for a year and we learned an important lesson. Make sure if you rent a storage unit in a climate that is hot and humid - even though it has a/c, make sure you buy a TON of those buckets that suck the humidity out of the air. We didn’t have enough of them and some of the furniture that had wood had mold on it.
Not good! So make sure you load up on those things. You can usually buy them at Home Depot or any long-term storage building.

Under Moving Truck Companies+ Moving Trucks+ Moving Truck Rental
Moving trucks come in all shapes and sizes and you’ll want to make sure that you are careful when selecting a moving truck company.
There are many deals out there and as I mentioned before, you can find some great deals and coupons for moving truck companies by going to your post office and picking up a change of address kit.
You’ll also find coupons for boxes and other moving supplies that can save you a lot of money upfront.
Also make sure the truck you get is in good shape, has working a/c, heat, comfortable seats, and a radio that works. I’ve driven trucks that were brand new all the way to one that had seats so bad that the springs were coming out and would stab me in the butt with every bump! Now that is ugly!
You know… I’ve moved so many times it’s crazy. I’ve gone through most of the moving truck companies and I’ve hired local movers to move everything for me. The best decision I made was to hire a moving company for me when I moved cross-country. That saved me a lot of stress and money in the long-term.
We were able to drive the 2000+ miles and take in some sights without having to worry about driving a moving truck around tight corners. We did a lot of things that just wouldn’t be possible if you’re driving a moving truck like: visited friends, drove around New Orelans to see the damage from the hurricane, checked out countless small towns, and was able to find parking spaces.
Believe me, if you are driving around a small town in a moving truck, it’s not easy to find a parking space - especially if you are towing a car!
So consider hiring a moving company that will move all of your packed boxes into their truck and unload it for you. Not onl will it save you time and money… but it’ll also save your back!

Under Hertz Moving Company+ Moving Trucks+ Moving Truck Rental+ Hertz Moving Truck Rental
Hertz Moving Company offers a few different choices for your moving truck rental. Hertz offers a 15 foot moving truck, a 20 foot truck, and a 24 foot truck.
One of the things that I learned is to make sure that you get a truck that will have a little more room than you may need. Getting a moving truck from Hertz Moving Company that is too small can cost you a lot more in the long run if you need to make multiple trips. Ask me how I know that! ha ha!
If you are moving a house or an apartment full of furniture, I would suggest the 24 foot Hertz Moving Truck. You should also be prepared to have your own padding, padlock, boxes, and rope to tie your furniture down.
One important lesson I learned when I got my truck from Hertz Moving Company was that it is VERY important to tie things properly. One time while moving in New Hampshire, I was driving up a reall steep hill. All in a sudden you heard a large CRASH in the back of the truck.
By the time I arrived at my new apartment, I knew I was in for a surprise when I opened the door in the back.
What did I find? EVERYTHING fell over. My TV was smashed, one of my stereo speakers was broken, and several boxes had broken open, including the one that had all of my plates and glasses.
Needless to say I need to go out and buy a new TV, stereo, and glasses and plates. This could have all been avoided if I went out and spent the $5 to get more rope. Nope, I was too lazy and thought it would be OK.
This added a good $500 to my move - BIG lesson learned! Make sure that you buy EXTRA rope so that this doesn’t happen to you when you rent your moving truck from Hertz Rental Company.

Needless to say, he wasn’t too happy with me! :) So what did he do? Well, he called his uncle and he drove across the country in his pick-up truck. The fit what they could in his truck and left the rest in Colorado. So much for finding moving truck rental companies in Colorado! But, I thought this list may help those of you who aren’t so stuck on who you don’t want to use.

Under Budget Moving Truck Coupons+ Moving Truck Companies+ Budget Moving Truck+ Moving Truck Rental
You can find Budget Moving Truck Coupons online and off if you are trying to save a little money on your move. The typical coupons that you’ll see for a Budget moving truck will be to save 10% off your move, a percentage off of moving supplies, and other coupon deals.
One of the best places I have found to find Budget Moving Truck Coupons is in those Value Paks we often get in the mail. But if you haven’t seen one of those come in for awhile, here is a secret…
Go to your local post office and ask for or look for a change of address form and moving package. In there you’ll find all sorts of coupons for moving companies like Budget. In my previous moves, this is what I would do to find deals and often would save hundreds of dollars because of the moving coupons.
So over all, I would say your best bet to find Budget moving truck coupons would be at your post office. I know it has worked for me in the past!

Under Moving Truck Companies+ Moving Cross Country+ Moving Trucks+ Moving Truck Rental
There are many local and national moving truck companies to choose from. And choosing the right moving truck company may help you save not only money, but also many headaches. Ask me how I know that!
During my many moves, I would search on the internet and through the Yellow Pages trying to find a list of moving truck companies in my area. Depending on where you live, you may have to drive a ways to go and pick up your moving truck.
When I lived in the north east, I often had to drive an hour to pick up a truck, compared to having to only drive about 10 minutes when moving to or from Houston. Below is a list of some national moving truck companies that I have either used or have seen in my travels. Keep in mind that if you are moving locally, sometimes you can save money renting a moving truck from a smaller company.
But also keep in mind that you’ll get what you pay for! Cheap moving truck companies are out there… but so are moving trucks with major probolems. You wouldn’t want the truck to break down and have to move your belongings from one truck to the other!
OK… so here is that list I mentioned (in no special order):
1. Penske
2. Budget
3. U haul
4. Ryder
5. Two Men and a Truck
6. Wheaton Moving Company
7. ABF U-Pack Moving
8. Hertz
9. UPS Freight Trailors
10. Local Movers
For my last move, I used someone who owned his own truck and had his son, his son’s girlfriend, and his wife working for him. They traveled the country moving people in their own truck. The way I found them was simply asking people who they knew of as far as moving truck companies.
I did pay a little more for them as they loaded the truck for me and met me down in Texas a week later at our new house. All the while we drove down in a nice and comfortable car and relaxed. Diving a car a few thousand miles is a lot less stressful than driving a huge moving truck towing a car. Ask me how I know that!!!

Under Budget Moving Truck+ Moving Trucks+ Moving Truck Rental
A Budget moving truck may be one of your best choices when moving across town or cross country. Budget usually provides some excellent deals and you may even be able to find some valuable coupons to get a % off on your Budget truck rental.
If you happen to have an American Express card, Budget is running a special right now where you can save 15% off any rental. I wish they had this special when I moved cross country. I would have saved about $200 bucks!
One of the advantages of renting a Budget moving truck is that you should end up with a truck that is in excellent condition. Unlike many other moving truck rental companies, they replace 25% of their fleet each year. So odds are you won’t have to deal with an air conditioning system that doesn’t work or a radio that 0nly works on AM and only one speaker works!
As far as the sizes of trucks that Budget offers, they have:
- A 10 foot cargo van
- A 10 foot moving truck
- A 16 foot moving truck
- A 24 foot moving truck
The 24 foot Budget moving truck is perfect if you are moving 5-8 rooms worth of furniture and boxes and you can have up to 12,000 pounds worth of items loaded up onto the truck. Also, the 24 foot truck is the only truck that Budget has that has 3 seatbelts, all of their other moving trucks have just 2.
And one other important difference is that all of the moving trucks have a 35 gallon gas tank. The 24 foot truck has a 55 gallon tank. So if you’re looking to haul a lot of furniture on your move, I would suggest a 24 foot Budget moving truck for your needs.

Under Self Moving Truck Rental+ One Way Moving Truck Rental+ Moving Trucks+ Moving Truck Rental+ Hertz Moving Truck Rental
Hertz moving truck rental is found in many locations around the US. But that’s not all Hertz offers. In fact, they offer: Hertz Rent A Car, Hertz Equipment Rental Corporation, Hertz Local Edition® (HLE), Hertz Car Sales®, or Hertz Truck and Van or Hertz Leasing.
Odds are, there is a Hertz moving truck or van rental in your area. As far as moving trucks, they offer three different sizes. They offer a 15 foot truck, a 20 foot truck and a 24 foot truck. It’s always better to over estimate the space you need because there’s nothing worse than packing your boxes and belongings into the truck and then running out of room!
It’s also important to know that Hertz moving trucks do not have the extra overhead space like some other rental companies do. So keep that in mind. Hertz also offers moving vans (also called cargo vans) for those local or smaller moves across town, and they are also perfect for a small business to transport items across town.
Also, most local Hertz locations do offer packing supplies, boxes, tape, and locks. Be sure to load up on these items as the unused items can usually be returned for a refund. Running out of boxes is NO FUN when you are packing. Ask me how I know that! Ha ha!

Under U-Haul Moving Truck Rental+ One Way Moving Truck Rental+ Moving Truck Rental
Uhaul truck rentals in Houston are about as easy to find as finding a purse for $5,000 in the Galleria. When I retned a Uhaul truck for my move within Houston, I rented it from a place actually near the Galleria, off of Westheimer. However, I wasn’t too happy with the truck.
It was in the middle of the summer and the A/C wasn’t really up to par. After all, if you are moving to or from Houston in the summer, A/C is a must! It reminds me of the time I rented a truck in the winter that didn’t have heat!
Anyway, the Uhaul’s seats were ripped and only one speaker worked. So I was cruising down Westheimer and Richmond with the windows down and music blasting from one speaker covered in sweat - and I haven’t started to move anything yet!
So if you are looking for a cheap rental truck, van, or pick-up truck in Houston, be sure to check a few places… and also look in the trucks and make sure the A/C works and the radio is up to par!
When I lived in Katy, Texas, I used a Penske truck that I got off of Mason Rd. They also rented trailors to two a car, which the Uhaul that I went to did not. And always remember… call around! Often times the cheapest moving truck rentals will often come with (or without) items that you’ll need… like air conditioning!
